OYOT short film

ACMA is proud to serve as the fiscal sponsor for “OYOT”, a short film by Hae Seoung Kim.

This Columbia thesis film portrays the story of a Korean immigrant family, a young daughter travels to Arizona seeking her estranged father, who left the family years ago. Through her eyes, this intimate portrait unfolds over a single day, revealing the complexities of their relationship and her father’s deeply human vulnerabilities.

Created by Columbia University and AFI film graduates, this thesis explores the universal journey of children attempting to understand their parents’ difficult choices. We hope to console our younger selves, who, despite an inability to fully comprehend our fathers, never stopped trying to bridge the gap.

LOGLINE: Noel, a Korean American teenage girl wise beyond her years, sets off alone for Arizona to reconnect with her estranged father over Christmas. As she witnesses his unconventional life in a camper, she begins to realize that he may not be as lonely as she once believed.
